Pro Tips and Substitutions

  • Add Spices. Incorporate black pepper, paprika, or garlic powder into the cheese before baking.
  • Use a Different Sauce. Besides mayo, you could use mustard, ketchup, spicy mayo, or a flavored aioli.
  • Swap the Meat. You can easily fill this sandwich with your favorite meat. Some more great options are salami, pepperoni, deli turkey and roast beef, and tuna or chicken salad.
  • WVegetarian Version. Skip the bacon and meat for a cheesy pickle crust with veggie toppings. Thinly sliced cucumbers, micro greens, zucchini, or shredded carrots are a great veggie filler!

  • Extra Crunch. Add crushed pork rinds or nuts on top for more crunch.

What to Serve with a Picklewich

This fun and delicious sandwich can go with so many sides! Some of our favorites to pair with it are a simple side salad, pasta salad, or Crispy Parmesan Potatoes!

Storage

For the optimal crunchy satisfaction, eat this picklewich immediately. However, you can store it in the fridge 1-2 days if needed. It’s not a freezer-friendly recipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a pickle sandwich ahead of time?

It’s best enjoyed fresh, as the cheese crust can lose its crispiness. However, you can prepare the layers separately in advance and assemble just before serving.

Is this pickle sandwich recipe suitable for a keto diet plan?

Absolutely! It’s low in carbs and high in fats, aligning perfectly with ketogenic diets.

What if I don’t have shredded cheese?

Shredded works best for melting and crisping, but you could also freshly grate a block of cheese or use cheese slices.
