Make these chicken sliders just once and every game day, get-togethers and holiday will call for them! Crispy Bacon, melted cheese and tender chicken between a sweet slider bun, it's slider heaven!
Outback Steakhouse is known for many delicious original dishes, and their Alice Springs Chicken is one of them. It consists of marinated grilled chicken breasts topped with sautéed mushrooms, crumbled bacon, melted cheese with a honey mustard sauce. Recently when I was making my at-home Alice Springs Chicken Copycat Recipe and had the idea, "this NEEDS to be turned into a slider!"
Boy that idea turned out to be sensational. Sandwiched between a slightly sweet bun, filled with tender deli chicken and topped with honey butter, it is now my new favorite slider. When the family doesn't leave a one left, you know it's a hit!

Why You’ll love these chicken sliders
Handheld foods always seem to bring an extra element of fun to any occasion! Sliders also offer a fantastic way to maintain portion control, as they're smaller than regular sandwiches. These bite-sized treats are perfect for serving at parties, where guests simply can't resist their delightful charm. With their well-balanced mix of sweet and savory flavors, sliders are absolutely delicious.
How to Make This Recipe
- While the oven preheats oven to 350℉, cook bacon in a large skillet until crispy. Sauté the mushrooms and onion in a tablespoon of the remaining bacon grease until tender, about 4-5 minutes.
- In a square baking dish, build the sliders: base bun, deli chicken, sautéed mushrooms and onions, cheese slices and crumbled bacon.
- In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of the honey and dijon mustard. Drizzle over the slider filling.
- Spread a mixture of the butter and remaining honey on the top side of the top buns, then lay the buns on top of the slider filling.
- Dome and cover the dish with aluminum foil. Bake covered 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 5-10 minutes or until the buns are toasted. Garnish with green onion and a skewer if desired.
Tips and Substitutions
- Deli-sliced chicken can be substituted with deli turkey or shredded rotisserie chicken.
- Smoked deli ham or prosciutto can be substituted for bacon.
- These are best served warm.
- Colby Jack cheese can be substituted with your personal cheese preference. I've also used Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, and cheddar cheese.
- These sliders make for a great option amongst other finger foods at a get-together. However, they can also be made as dinner and served with a simple side dish like Sweet and Crunchy Ramen Salad, Holiday Broccoli Salad, or Potato Wedges.
Storage
- These sliders can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. It is important to note that the bread isn't at its optimal texture when reheated as leftovers due to the moisture from the sauce and filling inside.
- Freezing leftovers isn't ideal for this recipe.

Anything on a King's Hawaiian is a winner in my house, haha! I loved that this uses deli chicken and very little cooking. Though I did this on my own, I could see my 10-year-old making this dinner solo.

For sure!! Kiddos love hand-held foods like this one. I agree...anything King's Hawaiian is a WIN!
