Ingredients for Steak and Cheese Bites

Scroll down to see the ingredient amounts in the recipe card.

    • Crescent Rolls: Serve as the base and outer layer of the bites. They provide a flaky and buttery texture, creating a foundation for the other ingredients.
    • Deli Roast Beef: The deli meat, whether it's steak or another variety, serves as the main protein component. It contributes savory and meaty flavors to the bites.
    • Pepper Jack or Cheddar String Cheese: Pepper Jack cheese is used to add creaminess, meltability, and a hint of heat to the bites. Cheddar is sharper and milder. Both cheeses complement the savory flavors of the deli meat and provides a gooey texture when melted.
    • Butter: This adds richness, enhances the flakiness of the rolls, and contributes a subtle buttery flavor. It also helps the everything bagel seasoning adhere to the rolls.
    • Everything Bagel Seasoning: It adds a burst of flavor to the bites, including savory, nutty, and garlicky notes. It not only seasons the exterior but also provides a distinctive appearance with specks of various seeds.

Pro Tip: You can customize these bites to whatever flavor you desire, use your favorite spices paired with your favorite dipping sauces.

    Expert Recipe Tips and Variations

    • Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning: This is easy to make and stores well in an airtight container up to 3 months. Here are the ingredients:
      • 2 tablespoons white sesame seeds
      • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
      • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
      • 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
      • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
      • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt (adjust to taste)
    • Meat Tips and Substitutes: Choose a high-quality deli meat for optimal satisfaction! Personally, I prefer Boar's Head Seasoned Filet of Roast Beef sliced at the deli counter. If you have leftover roast beef or prefer to make your beef from scratch, slice or chop it in easy-to-eat pieces. You can also steak appetizers with leftover sliced prime rib.
    • Cheese Options: Besides pepper jack and cheddar cheese sticks, you can also use sticks or slices of American cheese, havarti, mozzarella, Swiss cheese, gouda, fontina, gruyere, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack or provolone cheese.
    • Crescent Roll Dough: Keep the crescent roll tubes in the fridge until you’re ready to use them to avoid them from sticking together. If you prefer a homemade touch, you can make your own crescent roll dough.

    Storage and Freezing

Refrigeration: Store leftover steak and cheese bites in the refrigerator in an airtight container up to 2-3 days.

Freezing: For longer storage, you can freeze steak and cheese bites. However, freezing may affect the texture, so it's best for shorter periods. When ready to eat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to refresh the texture.

Reheating: Place leftovers in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes. If you're in a hurry, you can use the microwave. However, this may affect the texture of the crescent rolls. Heat in short intervals.

These were a hit! I used smoked Gouda cheese I had on hand & used a premade “everything bagel topping”and it was a little too salty for our liking. We used a creamy horseradish dipping sauce. Would definitely make again - Quick & easy!
