Mom’s Old-Fashioned Sad Cake

The only thing sad about my mom’s sad cake is the name. With only 6 ingredients that are often stocked in the kitchen, it’s a great recipe to have on hand for a potluck, holiday gathering or when you need to turn some frown’s upside down! Sad cake rises while baking then falls and forms cracks as it cools! It’s chewy, rich and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • Recipe

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a bowl using a stand mixer or whisk, blend together sugars. Add melted butter and mix well. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each egg. Lastly, add the flour and pecans, and mix just until incorporated. Pour into a buttered 9”x13” pan and bake for 40-45 minutes.
