A bowl of charcuterie party mix.

On my parents last visit to Texas, I greeted them with a classic meat and cheese charcuterie board! As we were catching up about their travels, my mom mentioned making a dried charcuterie version that could be a made-ahead version for parties. Well, this immediately got my creative juices flowing.

The elements I always include on a classic board are meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, nuts and something sweet. So, we took each of those elements and quickly figured out how we could make this into a dried version that was SUPER yummy and simple to make!

    Tips and Substitutions

    • Instead of beef sticks, you could use turkey, chicken or plant-based sticks. You could also use jerky. Just check for the brand chosen how long it’s good for at room-temperature after opening. Most are good up to 3 days at room temperature.
    • Another meat option is baked prosciutto. Simply lay prosciutto on a parchment paper lined sheet pan and bake at 375°F until crisp, about 10 to 15 minutes. Once cooled, break into bite-sized pieces.
    • Other dried cheese items that could be used are Moon Cheese snacks, Pipcorn Cheddar Crunchies, Parm Crisps, Pirate’s Booty Aged White Cheddar Cheese Puffs and cheese crackers.
    • There are LOTS of dried fruit options you could include, such as raisins, dates, pineapple and cut up That’s It fruit bars or fruit chews.
    • Cracker options are pretty much endless. You could also go with a pretzel style chip/cracker.
    • Any dried variety of nut would work in this mix. Besides what I used, you could also choose from marcona almonds, flavored almonds, peanuts, walnuts, flavored pecans, etc.
    • Dried vegetables could also come in the form of dehydrated vegetables such as carrots, okra, or green beans.

    Storage

    • This mix can be stored in an air-tight container at room temperature up to 3 days. If making ahead of time (more than 3 days), wait to add the meat pieces until ready to serve.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Is this Charcuterie Party Mix gluten-free?
      • Not with the brands of ingredients I’ve chosen. However, you could easily make swaps with gluten-free alternatives.
    • Is this a healthy snack?
      • As a registered dietitian, I never deem a food as unhealthy. The definition of “healthy” varies from person to person. As with any food, balance and moderation is the key. This mix is versatile and can lean towards whatever nutritional conviction you have.
