I’ve always called these “Be My Darlin’ Berries” because Darlene is the name of my friend that made them for me during my childhood. She would bring them to church events and I would always put an embarrassing amount of them on my plate.

This strawberries with cream cheese frosting are seriously one of the most decadent treats that taste way more complex than they really are to make! They give you the flavor notes of strawberry cheesecake, so my family likes to call them Cheesecake Dipped Strawberries. After one dipped berry, you’ll be in love!

The best part about this recipe is you can customize the toppings. I used chopped nuts here, but feel free to use sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, crushed freeze-dried fruit, or any other fun mini candies. Ingredients for Cheesecake-Coated Strawberries

  • Strawberries: Provides a sweet and juicy flavor that balances the richness of the cream cheese and the nuttiness of the pecans.
  • Cream Cheese Frosting: Adds a rich and creamy texture that complements the natural sweetness of the strawberries. With its presence, the flavor likens to strawberry cheesecake.
  • Chopped Pecans: Adds a satisfying crunch to each bite, creating a textural contrast to the softness of the cream cheese and the juiciness of the strawberries.

Laura Ashley’s Tip: Be sure to wash and fully dry your strawberries. If they aren’t fully dried, the cheesecake coating won’t stick properly!

How to Make Cheesecake Dipped Strawberries

  1. Dessert doesn’t get much easier than cream cheese dipped berries! It is quick and simple! First, transfer the frosting to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 5-second intervals, stirring between each, until it’s a consistency a little thicker than honey. If it’s too thin, the coating on the strawberries will be too thin. It should only take 10-15 seconds total to get that perfect consistency.
  2. Make sure the berries are washed and completely dry before dipping. This is important so that the frosting sticks and firms up. Also, pour the chopped pecans on a flat plate for easier coating.

  1. Working with one berry at a time, carefully hold the steam, submerge into the frosting to about a 1/4 inch from the stem, lift and twirl off any excess frosting, and roll in the chopped pecans. Place each cream cheese dipped berry on a serving tray.

Expert Tips and Substitutions

  • Strawberry Preparation: Make sure your strawberries are washed and fully dry before dipping. This is essential for the icing to adhere properly.
  • Nut Variety: If you’re allergic to pecans or don’t like them, you can replace them with another nut like chopped walnuts, almonds, or peanuts. The texture will slightly differ.
  • Nut Alternatives: If you don’t like nuts or want to try another item to roll the strawberries in, you can use crushed Oreo Cookie, graham crackers, or chocolate chip cookies. You can also roll them in crushed pretzels. However, these will have to be served near when they are prepared as these coatings absorb moisture and soften more quickly.
  • Chocolate Drizzle: These cream cheese strawberries rolled in pecans are also excellent with a drizzle of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate on top!
  • Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting: If you want to opt for a homemade frosting, you can follow this recipe:
    • Combine 4 tablespoons room temperature butter, 4 ounces cream cheese, 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. If the texture isn’t suitable for dipping, microwave in 5-10 second intervals until ready.
  • Traditional Cheesecake Topper: These dipped berries are a beautiful accent to a big slice of this tasty, decadent Philadelphia Cheesecake.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make cream cheese frosting dipped strawberries in advance?

Yes! These can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Just place them in the fridge in a covered dish. I’ve actually eaten them 2-3 days after making them. The pecans will soften a bit, but they’re still SUPER delicious!

What should I do if the frosting is soft?

The frosting will firm up as it cools. Refrigerate until it’s at the right consistency for dipping again.

What if I am allergic to nuts?

You can coat these cream cheese dipped berries in other crumbles as well such as Crushed Chocolate Cookies, Pretzels, Crushed Walnuts or Almonds. If rolling in cookies or pretzels, these must be served on the day of making them as they will become too soft after 24 hours.
