This incredible copycat Dolly Parton Stampede Soup recipe takes less than 15 minutes to make and is rich and cozy. This creamy vegetable soup tastes just like Dolly's at the Dixie Stampede!

A bowl of soup alongside a rotisserie chicken and cheese roll

Dolly Parton's Stampede (previously known as Dixie Stampede) is a dinner show attraction in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri that serves up this incredible creamy vegetable soup! Ready in just 15 minutes, Dolly's soup recipe uses less than 10 ingredients that you probably already have at home.

While they do sell the Stampede Soup mix online, I've found this copycat recipe I've concocted to come pretty close to the real thing. It's full of flavor, creamy, rich and SUPER delicious...especially served with a Copycat Dolly Parton's Stampede Biscuit! You can also customize it with your favorite vegetables.

    1. Whisk in half and half, and simmer an additional 5 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Serve with Copycat Dolly Parton Stampede garlic biscuits, cornbread or biscuits.

    Tips and Substitutions

    • I use a 15-ounce can drained mixed vegetables for convenience, but you can also use 15-ounces of fresh steamed vegetables or a can of Veg-All.
    • This soup is excellent paired with Copycat Dolly Parton's Stampede Chicken, a sandwich or salad.
    • Copycat Dolly Parton's Stampede Garlic Biscuits are amazing dipped in or served with this soup!
    • You can experiment with adding different vegetables. You can also add pasta or rice to make it even heartier.

    Storage and Freezing

After the soup has completely cooled, leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in an air-tight container up to 4 to 5 days. This soup can be frozen in an air-tight container up to 3 months. Thaw completely before reheating.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How can I adjust this recipe to make the soup thicker?

You can make this soup thicker by swapping some or all of the half and half with heavy cream or adding leftover mashed potatoes or instant potato flakes to the soup until you reach the consistency you like best.

I don't have heavy cream or potatoes. How else can I make it thicker?

You can whisk together a cornstarch slurry by combining ½-1 tablespoon cornstarch and ½-1 tablespoon water or milk. Whisk this mixture into the soup and allow it to simmer 5 minutes to thicken.

I hate chunks in soup. How can I remedy this?

You can blend this soup completely with an emulsion blender or blender to a cohesive mix. Once blended, add it back to the saucepan to heat back up.

    Is this recipe gluten-free?

No, but it can easily be adapted. You can substitute the all purpose flour with a gluten-free flour alternative or use the cornstarch slurry thickening method as noted above.

Pasta would not make this soup healthier. Pasta is not healthy.

        It says heartier. Not healthier.

Wow! You are so smug and self-righteous! Maybe you should actually read the suggestions. It says heartier, not healthier. Why do you even comment? If a recipe isn’t your style, just move on to another site that suits you instead of showing yourself to be a jerk.

Just made this but accidentally used a whole 32 oz carton of stock. To compensate I skipped the half and half so it wouldn’t get too liquidy, and added a second can of mixed veggies instead. Blended it up and hoped for the best and it came out so nicely! Such a yummy simple lunch with some fresh bread.

My entire family loved this soup!
I did add cooked wild rice and grilled chopped chicken to make it a heartier meal, but your base recipe is absolutely solid. Also wanted to tell you that I’m thinking there are so many different directions to go with your original recipe in terms of add-ins——grated cheese, ham, sautéed mushrooms….to name just a few. Thanks for a great new cold weather recipe go-to!!

I've been wanting to make this for awhile now, it turned out really good. I did substitute a few things around, I mixed 2 cans of cream of chicken into the broth, added twice the vegetables then mixed in two cups of milk. I've never had this soup before and felt it was missing a tiny something lol. I ended up sprinkling a little creole seasoning which gave it a tab bit more flavor. Thank you so much for posting this!

I love this recipe, and have been making it often lately! I'm vegetarian, so I need protein added to every meal. Highly recommend blending a can of chickpeas with some of the veg broth to add to the base - a very sneaky way to add that protein in! Kid tested and approved as well!

Kiddo was sick with a stomach bug and as she was recovering, all she wanted was “the Stampede soup”! This recipe is spot on and incredibly easy. We’re saving it and adding it to our rotation.

Hi! So, I've been to the stampede, and this recipe is spot on and delicious (thanks)!
Bit of a weird question, do you have any substitute recommendations for green beans/peas in the mixed veg? My friend is allergic to both, but I wasn't sure what I could sub without overpowering the soup. Thanks!

I made this because of all the 5-star reviews. I couldn't imagine cream of canned vegetable soup being worthy of such ratings. I followed the recipe exactly using my own home-canned chicken broth and Veg-All. It IS absolutely delicious and will be a new staple for us. Thanks for sharing.

I’m not sure why but this turned out so spicy! I’ve never used white pepper before so thats what I’m blaming. I have lots of teenagers eating this and they like spice so I’m hoping for the best!

We don't find it spicy at all, so I guess the white pepper is the only ingredient lending that spice level for you. I hope your teenagers enjoyed it! 🙂

I'm not sure what happened with your experience too. I've never gotten this feedback. You could instead use a carrot/potato mixture only instead if your palette is sensitive to the peas in the can. Maybe your can had a disproportionate amount.

When the recipe is followed to a T, this is not the outcome. It’s the exact texture and flavor of Dolly’s version. If there’s something I can do to help you troubleshoot and achieve a successful outcome next time, just let me know. My email is dinnerin321@gmail.com.
