    • Fresh Broccoli: Bite-sized pieces of bright green broccoli is loaded with nutrients and provides a satisfying crunch.
    • Mushrooms: Earthy, meaty mushrooms add depth, texture, and umami flavor. They soak up the flavors from the garlic and spices as they cook. Brown or white mushrooms are our favorite to use.
    • Olive Oil: Used for sautéing, olive oil enhances the overall flavor of the vegetables while keeping them tender.
    • Garlic Cloves: Sliced or minced garlic adds aromatic flavor and a savory richness that elevates the entire dish. It adds a bit of crunch. You can also opt to use garlic powder.
    • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: These flakes bring a touch of heat.

    Tips and Substitutions

    • Don't Overcook the Veggies: Often times, cooks will either overcook or not season their broccoli enough. Follow these steps precisely for a perfect crisp-tender broccoli and tender mushrooms!
    • Add More Vegetables: Feel free to throw in other vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or snap peas for extra color and nutrients.
    • Add Extra Flavor: Add more flavor by adding a splash of soy sauce, rice vinegar, parmesan cheese, oyster sauce, sliced green onion, or sesame seeds. Swap the water with chicken broth for extra richness.
    • Use Different Mushrooms: Experiment with different varieties of mushrooms such as shiitake mushrooms, portobello, cremini mushrooms, or oyster mushrooms.
    • Add Protein: To make this dish a complete meal, consider adding cooked chicken, tofu, or chickpeas.
    • Adjust the Heat: If you prefer less heat, reduce the amount of crushed red pepper or omit it entirely.
    • Get Creative: Broccolini is a hybrid form of broccoli and can be used in place of broccoli florets. Air Fryer Broccolini has an excellent char and perfect bite-through texture! Add prepared Roasted Garlic in Olive Oil for more garlicky goodness!

    Storage

Store any leftover sautéed broccoli and mushroom in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply warm in the microwave or on the stovetop over low heat until heated through.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen broccoli and mushrooms?

Yes! You can use frozen vegetables, but just be aware that they may release more moisture during cooking. Make sure to sauté them until heated through, and adjust cooking time accordingly.

What can I serve with this dish?

Sautéed broccoli and mushrooms pair wonderfully with grilled chicken, steak, fish, or as a topping for pasta dishes and grain bowls.

How do I keep the broccoli bright green?

To keep broccoli vibrant, avoid overcooking it. Sauté until it’s tender but still crisp, and consider blanching it in boiling water for a minute before sautéing for added color.
