    • Honey Dijon Dressing: Provides a sweet and tangy flavor base for the sauce.
    • Chicken Broth: Adds moisture and ensures the chicken stays juicy.
    • Garlic Powder: Gives each bite that wonderful garlic flavor. Fresh garlic works as well.
    • Seasoning Salt (or Salt & Black Pepper): Enhances the flavor of the dish. Livia's Seasoning Salt is my favorite!
    • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts or Thighs: Acts as the main protein of the dish, absorbing the flavors of the sauce and becoming tender during cooking. I personally prefer boneless skinless chicken thighs.
    • Heavy Cream: Contributes to a creamy texture for the sauce.
    • Cornstarch: Works as a thickening agent to give the sauce a smooth consistency.
    • ⅓-Less Fat Cream Cheese: Adds creaminess and richness to the sauce, balancing the sweetness and tang from the other ingredients while keeping the dish lighter.

    Expert Tips and Substitutions

    • Thickening the Sauce: If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can increase the amount of cornstarch mixed with water.
    • Honey Dijon Dressing: If you don't have honey dijon dressing, you can mix regular dijon mustard, mayonnaise and honey to achieve a similar flavor. Alternatively, a mix of yellow mustard, mayonnaise and honey can work too.
    • Chicken Broth: Vegetable broth or even water can be used as a substitute for chicken broth, although the flavor may be slightly milder.
    • Heavy Cream: For a lighter option, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half, whole milk, or coconut milk, but note that the texture will vary slightly.
    • Cream Cheese: Neufchâtel cheese or ricotta can be used in place of cream cheese. For a dairy-free option, consider using a dairy-free cream cheese alternative.

    Stovetop Honey Mustard Chicken

You can also make this slow cooker chicken recipe a lot faster on the stovetop! Simply whisk together honey dijon dressing, chicken broth, garlic powder and seasoning in a large saucepan over medium heat. Once it comes to simmer, add the heavy cream cornstarch slurry and cream cheese. Cook on medium-low 10 minutes, then whisk vigorously, until the cream cheese dissolves. Lastly, fold in a pulled apart rotisserie chicken.

    Storage and Freezing

To store Crockpot Honey Mustard Chicken, first, allow it to cool to room temperature then transfer into an airtight container. You can keep the chicken in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. If you want to store it for a longer period, you can freeze it for up to 3 months.

When you're ready to enjoy the leftovers, if they are frozen, thaw the chicken overnight in the refrigerator or use the microwave's defrost setting.

To reheat, you can microwave the chicken in short intervals, stirring in between until it’s warmed through. Alternatively, heat it in a skillet over medium-low heat with a splash of broth to keep it moist. You can also reheat it in the oven by covering it and heating at 350°F (175°C) for about 20-25 minutes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen chicken in a crockpot recipe?

Can I substitute the honey Dijon dressing?

Yes, if you don’t have honey Dijon dressing, you can mix regular dijon mustard with honey or use a combination of yellow mustard and honey to achieve a similar flavor.

Can I add vegetables to the crockpot?

Absolutely! You can add vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, or broccoli. Just be mindful to cut them into similar sizes to ensure even cooking.

Aww!🥹You’re so sweet! Thank you SO much!!!🥰 The vegetables are frozen charred veggies from Costco, and the pasta I don't have posted. It's one I was experimenting with, but will be shared in the future 🙂

Laura, you stop just short of saying how long you reheat the chicken in the oven at 360° ..you say "for about...." and nothing. Can you update the amount of time to reheat in the oven? It would be my preferred method of reheating.
      Thank you,
      LisaS
