Ingredients

  • 2 8 ounce packages Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • ¼ cup prepared horseradish sauce optional
  • 8-10 slices provolone cheese halved
  • 1 ½ pounds deli roast beef
  • French’s Crispy Fried Onions amount as desired
  • 1 egg white whisked
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 ounce Au jus packet

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Unroll crescent rolls, separating each triangle. Arrange in the shape of a sun, with the short ends slightly overlapping. Flatten the center dough slightly to create the center base.
  • On the base, layer the filling in this order: half of the cheese slices, horseradish sauce, roast beef, more horseradish sauce (if desired) the remaining cheese, and fried onions.
  • Bring the tips of the dough over the filling and tuck underneath the center base.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg with a fork. Brush the top of the ring with the egg and sprinkle with parsley and garlic powder.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, make Au jus per package directions. Pour into a small serving bowl. Once the ring is done, place the bowl in the center of the ring.

TIPS AND SUBSTITUTIONS

  • Crescent Roll Dough: If you prefer a homemade touch, you can make your own crescent roll dough. Keep the crescent roll tubes in the fridge until you’re ready to use them to avoid them from sticking together.
  • Deli Roast Beef: Opt for high-quality deli roast beef, or you can use leftover homemade roast beef. If your meat has excess moisture, pat dry with a paper towel as this can make the crescent roll dough soggy.
  • Provolone Cheese: Substitute Swiss or Gruyère cheese for a slightly different flavor. Pepper jack can add a hint of spice.
  • Horseradish: Adjust the amount of horseradish sauce to your taste preference. You can also use Dijon mustard for a tangy alternative.
  • Crispy Onions: Make your own crispy onions by frying thinly sliced onions.
  • Egg Wash: If you don't have an egg, you can brush the crescent roll ring with melted butter or milk for a golden finish.
  • Au Jus: Make a quick au jus by mixing beef broth with a splash of Worcestershire sauce and seasoning to taste.
  • Garlic Powder: Fresh minced garlic can be used as a substitute for garlic powder. Simply whisk into the egg white wash.
  • Customize Fillings: Feel free to add or substitute ingredients like sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, or spinach for added flavor and variety.
  • Pan Size: If you don't have a pizza pan or round stone, you can make the ring in an oval shape on a large sheet pan. You can also line your pan with parchment paper or grease with butter or non-stick spray if it does not have a non-stick surface.
  • Sandwich Ring Size: This recipe can be halved if desired. Simply create a smaller sun shape with 1 can of dough and halve the remaining ingredients.
