Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 4-6 oz shredded cheeses (mozzarella and white cheddar)
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Meat options: pepperoni, ground beef,
  • sausage, bacon, prosciutto
  • Veggie options: mushrooms, green peppers,
  • jalapeños, onion, olives
  • Recipe

Saute veggies of choice in a small pan on medium-high until tender. (This step is optional) Spray the pie irons with non-stick spray. On one side, begin layering: bread slice, 1-2 tbsp sauce, 1-2 oz meat, 1-2 oz cheese, veggies, 1-2 oz cheese again, 1-2 oz meat again, 1-2 tbsp sauce, and finally another bread slice. Close the pie irons and cut off any excess bread along the edges. Cook over an open fire 8-10 minutes, turning periodically so that it cooks evenly. You can lift them apart to check for doneness. Eat as is or serve with additional pizza sauce or garlic butter for dipping.
